As the days grow longer and the sun burns brighter, many of us naturally spend more time outside, soaking up the energy of the season. But summer’s intensity can also be overstimulating—especially for sensitive or intuitive people. That’s where energetic hygiene comes in.
Just like we protect our skin from the sun and drink more water in the heat, our energy fields need seasonal support too. Summer’s unique rhythm offers a perfect opportunity to reset, recharge, and stay centered. Whether you're in the Northern Hemisphere (June 20 to September 22) or the Southern Hemisphere (December 21 to March 20), these energy hygiene practices are here to help you stay grounded, clear, replenished, and secure through the sunny season.

Grounding in Summer

​Summer tends to pull our energy outward, encouraging movement, stimulation, and activity. Grounding practices help you reconnect to your body and the present moment so you can move through the season with steadiness and ease.
  • Walk barefoot on grass, sand, or warm pavement: Touching the Earth with your bare feet activates your nervous system in a calming way and restores your connection to your physical body. It’s a simple, powerful practice that helps release mental chatter and bring you into the present moment.
  • Build sandcastles or dig in the dirt with your hands: This tactile experience activates sensory awareness and provides a playful, physical way to discharge unprocessed energy. Allow yourself to fully immerse in the moment, even if just for a few minutes.
  • Hold sun-warmed stones or seashells: Let the natural heat radiating from these objects gently anchor you into your body. The warmth can offer comfort and create a subtle sensory focus that brings you back to the here and now.
  • Sit quietly on a rock and observe your surroundings: Allow yourself to settle into the moment and notice the sights, sounds, and sensations of summer. Practicing mindfulness in nature helps you feel supported and connected to the Earth’s rhythms.
  • Balance on curbs, logs, or low walls: Engaging your physical balance requires presence and concentration, which can pull you out of mental loops. It’s also a fun, lighthearted way to reconnect with your inner child.
  • Place your feet in a stream, river, or kiddie pool: Cool water around your feet helps calm overstimulation and grounds you into your body. Even a few minutes can restore a sense of stability and ease.

Clearing Energy in the Summer

​With longer days and more social interactions, summer can bring in excess energy that accumulates quickly. These practices help release what’s no longer serving you so you can move through the season with clarity and lightness.

  • Take naps outdoors or near open windows: Resting in the presence of natural light and fresh air can deeply soothe the nervous system. Even brief moments of rest can help recalibrate your energy.
  • Savor cold desserts or refreshing drinks slowly and with intention: Bringing attention to pleasurable sensations helps restore emotional and energetic balance. This also offers a moment of stillness during an otherwise active season.
  • Visit a summer market and soak in the colors, smells, and abundance: Markets are full of sensory stimulation and joyful energy. Let the experience of seasonal bounty remind you of the richness available to you.
  • Experiment with watercolor painting as a gentle creative outlet: The fluid, flowing quality of watercolors mirrors the natural rhythm of summer and helps you access your intuitive side. No skill is required—just allow the colors to guide you.
  • Make sun tea with herbs that support your energy: Let the solar energy infuse your tea with warmth and vitality. Sipping it becomes both a physical and energetic form of nourishment.

Securing your Energy Field in the Summer

​High-energy environments and constant stimulation can wear down your boundaries, even when you’re feeling good. These simple securing practices help fortify your energy field so you can enjoy summer without taking on what isn’t yours.
  • Apply SPF as part of your energetic boundary practice: Use the act of applying sunscreen as a mindful ritual of protection. As you spread it over your skin, set the intention to protect your energy just as you protect your body.
