The New Moon is the beginning of the lunar cycle. In ancient times, the 28-day lunar cycle was the predominant calendar, with that tradition still occurring today with some lunisolar calendars. This period when the moon is darkened is a beautiful time to set your intentions and manifestations, "planting your seeds for the future". The wonderful thing about the New Moon is that every 28 days we have a new opportunity to work with this powerful energy. Working with the energy of the New Moon can look different in every season. I've elaborated on a few of my favorite ways to work with this energy. Review Previous Month's GoalsHow did the month stack up against what you thought it would look like? Did you accomplish all of your goals, or are they all still sitting there? Were you able to get some completed? Take stock, reassess, and see if any need to be moved to the next month. Make sure to celebrate the wins that you did have over the previous month! Journal Monthly IntentionsIt helps to document and declare your monthly intentions somewhere other than your brain. Write out your intentions, goals, desires as deeply and detailed as possible. The more detail and energy you put into these intentions, the easier it is to manifest them into this reality (if it is in your highest and best good). Release Previous Month's EnergyThere are many different ways to clear your energy. You can take a salt bath, dance it out, use energy healing techniques, use a sound healing tool, or burn something; the possibilities are endless and up to your comfort level! Every time I release energy, it is different, depending on how I feel, what I'm releasing, and what tools I have access to. Clear Your Space Physically and EnergeticallyI like to have everything clean on the first of the month; it feels new, fresh, and sparkly. When I'm physically cleaning, I want to simultaneously combine energetic practices to address cleaning and clearing. This can look like singing and praying while cleaning, adding clearing elements like Florida water to cleaning supplies, drawing symbols or sigils in cleaning solution, or visualizing the energy being swept away and laying on new protections. It is also a great time to check and replenish your wards or protective barriers. Reconnect with Heart and BodyMany of us tend to get stuck in our heads and our emotions, so I like to use the New Moon as a reminder to come back down to Earth, into my body, and feel what is going on. I spent a lot of time ignoring my body and avoiding what I was feeling, so now I try and make a conscious effort to let myself fully experience what is happening in my body. Self CareI'm not talking bubble baths and bonbons; I'm talking about the things we do today for our future selves. These are often dull tasks like making sure all necessary appointments are scheduled, laundry is being done (and put away) promptly, nutrient-dense food is prepped and readily available, etc. What are some different ways that you've found to work with the energy of the New Moon? Let me know in the comments, or if you try any of these suggestions, I would love to hear about it! Love, Arielle Sterling
