The Best Stress Relief Strategies for YOU (VIDEO)

Wow, that was so much fun! Thank you to those of you who joined us for our live event to learn about realistic stress relief strategies that you can incorporate in your everyday life!  Stress hits everyone differently, yet impacts each of us every single day, but hopefully you can find a few things will help you to manage your stress.
When it comes to stress, there is a no universal key or cure; everyone is unique in how they learn to their manage stress best. Here are a few of the best tips and tricks that I've discovered during my quest to reduce stress before it happens:
  • Are you being proactive or reactive? Being reactive feels like running around like a chicken with it's head cut off and just letting things happen around you.  When you make the transition to proactive, you take the reins back and feel into what you can control.
  • Are you scheduling your life appropriately? Is it stressful going grocery shopping during busy weekend hours? When we start to be proactive, we can begin to recognize patterns in order to acknowledge and work with stressors.
  • Schedule in your self care activities into your planner and treat it like an appointment with yourself.  You cannot pour from an empty cup and you can't help others if you aren't helping yourself.  You wouldn't miss an appointment or date with a friend, why would you cancel on the most important person in your world, yourself? 
  • How are you fueling yourself? Are you giving your body a fair chance, or are you asking it to process more than it can handle? We have to take a good honest look at what we are putting into our bodies each and every time we eat.  Are you eating to nourish your body or your emotions? 
  • Are you staying hydrated enough?  If you are only rehydrating when you are thirsty, your body is already dehydrated. However, the body only recognizes thirst after an individual has already lost about 2-3% of their hydration but mental performance and physical coordination become impaired after only a 1% hydration loss. 

As much as we strive to be proactive, there are always going to be situations that we cannot control and we will have to work on relieving stress reactively. Here are a few things that have helped me during stressful situations when I am trying to unwind:
  • Salt baths are my go-to self care technique when I have had a tough day and I want to move heavy energy and I'm dragging.
  • Acknowledging the stressor by taking a step back from the situation and seeing it for what it really is. The idea is to remind yourself that you are likely not in a life or death situation. 
  • Shifting attention and awareness to something lighter and less stressful can really help to change your perspective.  Finding something to distract you that allows you to channel your energy into a positive experience can be helpful. 
  • Meditation, breathing techniques and body awareness exercises are amazing ways to take back control over your body if stress and anxiety have taken over. Muscle isolation exercises, such as contracting and releasing muscles from head to toe can help to relieve stress in the body.  
  • Laughter is one of the fastest ways to shift your mood! Turn on your favorite movie, comedy act or online video clip and just try not to smile!
