The Most Effective Ways to Incorporate Your Affirmations

We've all heard about affirmations and how they can change our life, but how do we use them, in real life?

First of all, let's discuss the difference between a mantra and an affirmation since these words are often used interchangeably, and while they are similar, they are not exactly the same.

A mantra is a word or a sound that is spoken in repetition as a meditative aid.  This sacred sound is believed to have psychological and spiritual powers.  Ancient Hindu mantras were symphonic and mathematically calculated based on the sound and vibration of the chant or phrase.

Affirmations are what we commonly use today, much for the same purpose. The difference is that these phrases are crafted with the words carrying special significance, not just sound and vibration. Affirmations are statements that are used to "affirm" positive statements of encouragement.  


Here are five unique and different ways that you can incorporate affirmations into daily life, aside from using your affirmation during mediation:
  • Set your affirmation as your either your computer, your phone or your tablet's background and lock screens. This way you are reading the affirmation every time you go to look at your phone, which for some of us, is quite a few times per day! 
  • Place sticky notes on your desk, computer monitor or car dash to give you visual reminders when your thoughts may otherwise stray. I like to put messages in unexpected places, that way it keeps me on my toes and constantly reminded of the bigger goal! 
  • Try writing your affirmation with a dry erase marker (or lipstick!) on your bathroom mirror! Every time you walk into your bathroom, you will be reminded of your affirmation! This is a great tool to use if you work out of your home! 
  • Add an affirmation as a daily alarm! This helps to set a consistent routine of checking in at a specific time every single day.  You can use this as your daily morning alarm or you can add a new one in the afternoon or evening as a reminder to check in with yourself. 
  • Journaling feelings that are brought up with an affirmation is a great exercise to really connect and focus in on the true intent of the phrase.  This can help bring additional clarity and guidance from the initial affirmation.  Automatic writing starting with your affirmation is another great journalling exercise that can shed fresh, new light onto your affirmation.
