10 Reasons Why You Should Be Clearing Your Space

When's the last time you energetically cleared your home or office?

Just as we should be maintaining our own personal energetic hygiene, it’s important to energetically maintain the spaces that we physically inhabit as well. Homes and buildings have the capacity to hold onto residual energies, so if we’re not mindful of clearing the spaces we inhabit regularly, they can start to feel dull and stagnant.

​We forget that buildings have life force energy as well! Have you ever watched a show on HGTV where they talked about the house needing to breathe? Or maybe you’ve noticed in your own home during the winter or summer months, where a door doesn’t fit properly in the frame. We may not consciously stop and think about buildings being living, yet we already have the unconscious understanding.  

Just as there are many reasons that we may decide to take a shower, there are many reasons that we may have to clear the energy from our area.

1. You're in a new home, office or property. This is a very common practice to clear the energy from the previous tenants and any residual energetic imprints they may have left behind.
2. You feel like you need to refresh your space. If an area is feeling stagnant or stuffy, it's likely a sign that it's time to rejuvenate the space.
3. You're wanting to bring new energy in! Starting a new project, class or venture is an optimal time!
4. When the residents of a home are in transition, this can shift the energetic dynamic of the space. When there are people moving in or out (kids going to college, roommates moving in and out, etc.) this is the perfect time to reset your space.
5. The same goes if you are experiencing a divorce or separation, it's a good idea to clear the home of any arguments or residual energy that may be lingering.
6. If someone in the home is experiencing an extended or chronic illness, it is imperative to keep the energy of the space as clear as possible for the optimized health of the individual. 
7. Any time you're bringing new elements into your space, you'll want to consider clearing the items whether they be new furniture or anything secondhand, objects hold onto energy until cleared. This includes purchasing paintings, clothes, crystals, mirrors, books, or anything "antique". 
8. If you believe that your home is haunted, clearing the space will help whatever paranormal issues you may be experiencing. If you're wondering if your home (or office) is haunted, check for my top signs here.
9. If there has ever been a death in the home (that you're aware of), even that of a beloved animal family member, it's a good idea to clear the space. If you live in a familial home, chances are there have been some transitions within the space.
10. If you're a practitioner, you may want to attune space to your energy if  you're hosting a workshop, retreat, event that is in a common or shared space.
