The Practice of Grounding

One of the most critical practices for us to master as spiritual beings is grounding. So many of us spend significant time up in the ethers, attending to the fun facets of Spiritual work. However, we need to pay attention to our physical bodies as well. Our human bodies will permanently reside in the 3D.

Grounding is becoming fully present and connected to your physical body. People avoid being in their bodies because of uncomfortable physical or emotional pain. Individuals who struggle with addictions also avoid their physical bodies with drugs, sex, alcohol, food, or emotional entanglements. 

Spending too much time out of body can cause issues getting and remaining grounded, but how do you know if you're not grounded?

Signs You Need to Ground

​Here are some reasons that you may recognize a need to get grounded:
​
  • forgetful
  • distant
  • spacey
  • emotional
  • stuck in your head
  • experience anxiety
  • have physical pain
  • sleep issues
  • feeling broken or out of sorts
  • making careless mistakes
  • electrical issues (shorting out electronics, lights, etc.)
  • tripping over yourself/feet
  • clumsy all of a sudden
  • breaking things accidentally

Sneaky Reasons You May Need to Ground

Here are some of the sneaky reasons that you may need to get grounded that may not be as obvious:
​
  • live or sleep off of ground level (apartment, condo, etc.)
  • work in building off ground level
  • work on airplanes or helicopters 
  • experiencing lucid dreams
  • practice astral travel or energy work
  • around or touching lots of people
  • job aids others
  • diet (non-meat eaters)
  • work/live on a boat or pier
  • home is on stilts/no foundation

Ways to Get Grounded

It's important to have an arsenal of different tools to help you get grounded. What has worked at one time, may not always work, so having a few different options available helps to be proactive.

Mind:
  • visualizations
  • gratitude 
  • journaling

Body:
  • dancing
  • walking
  • earthing
  • exercise
  • petting an animal
  • applying ice to the body
  • connecting with water
  • laughing
  • stretching
  • singing
  • gardening
  • drinking water
  • eating grounding foods (ex: root veg, chocolate, meat, etc.)

Spirit:
  • breathing techniques
  • crystals: onyx, black tourmaline, red jasper, hematite, smoky quartz, tiger's eye, pyrite, obsidian
We should be actively grounding ourselves at least one time per day, perhaps more, depending on your situation.
